Jamie Reich

Owner, Creative Director

While he now oversees three successful art and design companies from his sprawling warehouse studio in southeast Minneapolis, Jamie’s roots are firmly planted in the theater world. From high school, where he spent years building and painting sets, to college, where he earned a double major in art and theater at the University of Buffalo, Jamie was focused on honing his theatrical design skills.

His first professional theater job was as Prop Assistant at the Cleveland Playhouse, but he quickly became a sought-after theatrical designer. In 1983, he signed on as Prop Master/Set Decorator for the prestigious Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, where he spent 10 years mastering artisan trades. From there, he moved to Minneapolis’ renowned Dayton’s department store, where he worked as Technical Director of the photo studio. Along the way, Jamie moonlighted, creating one-of-a-kind designs for a range of clients. When the moonlighting gigs outpaced his day job, Jamie officially launched his first company, Apropos Studio, to continue solving design challenges for what would soon become an international roster of clients.

Today, he is also owner of Area Environments and 5th & Malcolm, two additional companies that build on his team’s expertise in both classical decorative arts and cutting-edge digital printing technology.
